Chinese tech giants are growing dramatically and spreading. Mainly composed of Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent and Xiaomi, the BATX are the Chinese twins of the GAFA (Google, Amazon, Facebook and Apple, respectively). Not very well-known in the West, these giants are however behind almost every digital innovation in China and intend to go abroad. The BATX are revolutionizing almost all industries : financial services, transport, health, home automation, retail, every industry is being disrupted by them. The BATX grew in the shadow, in part due to the “Great Firewall,” which drove Facebook and Google off the Chinese Internet and allowed the emergence of these local twins.
Today, the titans of Chinese tech are preparing their expansion to the West. Tencent bought 12% of Snap (Snapchat), Alibaba and Tencent (via Didi Chuxing) invested in Taxify to compete with Uber in Europe and Baidu acquired Kitt.ai, an American startup specialized in Artificial Intelligence.
