01 — Gemba Walk & On-site Immersion · Europe

Company visits inspire.
Gemba Walks transform.

In Japanese, gemba means “the real place”: where the work is done and where value is created. A Gemba Walk is neither a guided tour nor an audit — it is a disciplined way to go and see, ask why, and turn observation into decisions.

An on-site immersion format that works on its own or as part of your next Learning Expedition.

03 — What keeps you up at night

Your strategic challenges, turned into on-site observation.

Every Gemba Walk starts from a real business question — not from a list of companies to visit.

Observation

Our teams come back inspired from their visits. But nothing really changes afterwards. How do we turn inspiration into action?

Critical reading

We are always shown the official version. How can we tell what really makes an organisation work, beyond the corporate narrative?

Shop-floor culture

Our leaders are far removed from the front line. How do we rebuild the reflex to go and see before deciding?

Continuous improvement

We talk about operational excellence. In practice, how do we observe it elsewhere — and bring it home?
04 — Our conviction

Go see. Ask why. Show respect.

A Gemba Walk is not a company visit, an audit or a PR exercise. It is a disciplined way to understand how work is really done: observing on site, questioning causes rather than symptoms, and recognising that the people closest to the work often understand its challenges best.
“Real change never comes from a report. It comes from a jolt.”
— Mathieu Hamel, Founder, Innovation is Everywhere
05 — Our method

How a Gemba Walk works.

01 — Before: frame the question

Participants define a clear question linked to a real business challenge. Preparation: review of available information, formulation of hypotheses, alignment on what we want to understand.

02 — During: go and see

On site, direct observation of work as it actually happens, and conversations with the teams involved. Participants learn to separate what they observe from how they interpret it.

03 — After: debrief and act

Facilitated collective reflection after each visit. What did we see? What surprised us? What is specific to this organisation? What could we test back home?

06 — Our formats
