{"id":416,"date":"2014-06-10T18:19:58","date_gmt":"2014-06-10T18:19:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.www.innovationiseverywhere.com\/?p=416"},"modified":"2014-06-10T18:19:58","modified_gmt":"2014-06-10T18:19:58","slug":"future-e-commerce-trends-singapore-based-redmart-founder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/innovationiseverywhere.com\/fr\/future-e-commerce-trends-singapore-based-redmart-founder\/","title":{"rendered":"Future e-commerce trends from Singapore-based Redmart founder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">I do love to network at tech events, and I also do love to sit down and listen when it\u2019s worth, at <a title=\"Echelon Singapore\" href=\"http:\/\/e27.co\/echelon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Echelon<\/a>, I\u2019m rarely disappointed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The morning session on the <strong>Future of e-commerce, by Singapore online grocery store <a title=\"Redmart\" href=\"https:\/\/redmart.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Redmart<\/a> founder <a title=\"Roger Egan Redmart\" href=\"http:\/\/sg.linkedin.com\/in\/rogereganiii\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roger Egan<\/a><\/strong> proved insightful, making both a synthesis of all what\u2019s been happening recently with Apple, Alibaba and Uber, while also providing a lots of reasonable (or not!) predictions for the coming years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">To give a few words on the context, Echelon is the biggest tech conference in South-East Asia, happening these days, and <strong>Redmart is one of the top e-commerce companies in the region on online groceries, with $12m raised so far, 200 employees in a bit less than 3 years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p2\">E-commerce is eating the world\u2026 and there\u2019s still room for disruption<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/innovao.cluster030.hosting.ovh.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/online-share-of-retail-sales-by-category-2011-innovation-is-everywhere-martin-pasquier-redmart-singapore-future-ecommerce-trends-echelon-singapore-3.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-417\" src=\"http:\/\/innovao.cluster030.hosting.ovh.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/online-share-of-retail-sales-by-category-2011-innovation-is-everywhere-martin-pasquier-redmart-singapore-future-ecommerce-trends-echelon-singapore-3.jpg\" alt=\"online share of retail sales by category 2011 innovation is everywhere martin pasquier redmart singapore future ecommerce trends echelon singapore\" width=\"576\" height=\"392\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It\u2019s never useless to get a refresher on <strong>e-commerce and online shopping stats<\/strong>. This graph &#8211; stopping in 2011 &#8211; shows how much online shopping is booming, and also what industries remain to be shaken up by startups. These two pictures show how different it works for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>B2C<\/strong> e-commerce (less control on experience, on stock availability) such as Amazon and Redmart or Lazada in South-East Asia<\/li>\n<li>Traditional <strong>marketplaces<\/strong> (lot of selection &#8211; no customer experience) with companies like Tmall, Rakuten in Asia)<\/li>\n<li>Asset Light <strong>Instant Delivery<\/strong> Marketplace like FoodPanda, Instacart, Uber, ebay Now, who partners with retailers and have personal shoppers who buy the stuff and get it delivered in an hour or a day<\/li>\n<li><strong>Subscription<\/strong> based e-commerce with BellaBox, Dollar Shave Club, highly convenient if you have the purchasing power<\/li>\n<li><strong>C2C<\/strong> platforms like Taobao<\/li>\n<li><strong>Private Label<\/strong> and value added services such as Zalora, Warby Parket, Bonobos (you send back what you don\u2019t want),<\/li>\n<li>Daily <strong>Deals<\/strong> (GILT, Groupon),<\/li>\n<li>Price <strong>comparison<\/strong> engines (mySupermarket, Pinterest, vroom vroom vroom, mogujie.com), where you select from many, keep the best only.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fulfilment<\/strong>\/Delivery such DHL, or recent alliance of SingPost and Alibaba, Ta Q Bin<\/li>\n<li>e-commerce <strong>software<\/strong> platform to nsure the last mile delivery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\">Recent e-commerce trends in the industry includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>From <strong>\u201cthe everything store\u201d<\/strong> (Amazon, Alibaba, JD.com) fighting with big retailers such as Walmart or Tesco, teaming up with delivery and added services, and a few being out of the scope (Bonobos: let\u2019s do everything ourselves)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Blurring lines between logistics and e-commerce<\/strong> companies (the site is the easy part), between retailer and manufacturers as well (what future for P&amp;G or Unilever?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"p2\">Future e-commerce trends: tech companies will win in any case<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">Last but not least, Roger Egan played the game of predictions and gave a few cool insights and bets that we share here:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The great e-commerce convergence<\/strong>: B2C and marketplace converge (purchasing power of B2C + fast growth of marketplace) as seen with Amazon buying Zappos, Diapers<\/li>\n<li>The<strong> entire control on supply chain &amp; logistics win<\/strong>. The site is easy, the supply dhain is hard. It\u2019s hard not to think about how Apple made a closed garden, but one which works.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/innovao.cluster030.hosting.ovh.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/innovation-is-everywhere-ecommerce-future-trends-tech-and-ecommerce-companies-converge-amazon-google-alibaba-apple-online-shopping-martin-pasquier-echelon-singapore-2014-3.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-423\" src=\"http:\/\/innovao.cluster030.hosting.ovh.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/innovation-is-everywhere-ecommerce-future-trends-tech-and-ecommerce-companies-converge-amazon-google-alibaba-apple-online-shopping-martin-pasquier-echelon-singapore-2014-3.png\" alt=\"innovation is everywhere ecommerce future trends tech and ecommerce companies converge amazon google alibaba apple online shopping martin pasquier echelon singapore 2014\" width=\"640\" height=\"273\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tech companies and e-commerce companies converge<\/strong>, especially if we take into account the recent moves of Google Express, Alibaba in Singpost, Apple into Beats, Uber into same-day delivery ambitions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Content, Community and Commerce converge<\/strong>, with Pinterest being an obvious case (and winner), where pictures can be shared and links back efficiently to e-commerce websites (you can now even have e-mail alerts when the price of one of your pins drop)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ecosystem wins<\/strong>, with a bigger value than the sum of its part.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Retailers will become manufacturers:<\/strong> now that they master the distribution, why wouldn\u2019t they tempted to build the things they sell? P&amp;G and Unilever may well be next on the list of big disruptions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Convenience<\/strong> and gratification are key: drone-delivery, 3D printed replacement parts, will increase brand loyalty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">Just as we did with the <a title=\"The Future of Mobile trends 2014\" href=\"http:\/\/www.www.innovationiseverywhere.com\/future-mobile-technologies-cheap-smartphones-shorter-timespans-augmented-reality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Future of Mobile after listening to Tomi Ahonen in Lagos<\/a> last month, this Future of e-commerce trends should be a tool for you to use and ask yourself where do you position yourself into these trends and potential lines of future disruption.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I do love to network at tech events, and I also do love to sit down and listen when it\u2019s worth, at Echelon, I\u2019m rarely disappointed.
