This is, in a nutshell, the basis of <strong><a title=\"Maker Cities IFTF\" href=\"http:\/\/www.makercities.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maker Cities<\/a><\/strong>, a project launched by the <a title=\"Institute for The Future\" href=\"http:\/\/www.iftf.org\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institute For The Future<\/a> (IFTF). While in <strong>Shenzhen<\/strong> for the Maker Faire, the team delighted us with a <strong>series of 11 short speeches from as many cities<\/strong> represented by one of their makers.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\">Makers from China, Beirut, New-York, Yogyakarta and more<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">Of course, you can&rsquo;t expect Beirut to sound exactly the same than Kathmandu or Singapore, but still, it&rsquo;s pretty interesting to <strong>compare how all these tech activists are organizing their communities and try to hack the city for the better<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">So you will find here the <strong>review of ALL the speakers we&rsquo;ve had the opportunity to listen to and discuss with in Shenzhen<\/strong>, representing, in addition to the above cities: <strong>Beijing, Shanghai, Tel Aviv, San Francisco, London, New York, Singapore, Hong Kong and Yogyakarta<\/strong> in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\">Maker Cities: an open-source\u00a0gamification platform to empower makers everywhere<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-360\" src=\"http:\/\/innovao.cluster030.hosting.ovh.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/maker-cities-iftf-innovation-is-everywhere-startups-emerging-markets-makers-martin-pasquier-3.gif\" alt=\"maker cities iftf innovation is everywhere startups emerging markets makers martin pasquier\" width=\"665\" height=\"205\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The concept of <strong>\u00ab\u00a0making\u00a0\u00bb is clearly an umbrella for a lot of different things.<\/strong> People talked about <strong>democracy<\/strong>, about <strong>immigrants<\/strong> mixing in <strong>urban<\/strong> areas, about <strong>creativity<\/strong> and arts.
