{"id":2142,"date":"2015-04-01T12:51:02","date_gmt":"2015-04-01T04:51:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.www.innovationiseverywhere.com\/?p=2142"},"modified":"2015-04-01T12:51:02","modified_gmt":"2015-04-01T04:51:02","slug":"the-state-of-india-startup-ecosystem-here-comes-the-growth-and-10000-startups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/innovationiseverywhere.com\/fr\/the-state-of-india-startup-ecosystem-here-comes-the-growth-and-10000-startups\/","title":{"rendered":"The state of India startup ecosystem: here comes the growth (and 10,000 startups)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To kickstart the <a title=\"Nasscom product conclave Bangalore India\" href=\"http:\/\/productconclave.in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASSCOM Product Conclave Conference<\/a> in Bangalore, <a title=\"Rajat Tandon Nasscom\" href=\"http:\/\/in.linkedin.com\/pub\/rajat-tandon\/0\/336\/250\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rajat Tandon<\/a>, Director at NASSCOM and <a title=\"Sunil Rao Google India\" href=\"http:\/\/in.linkedin.com\/in\/sunilrao1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sunil Rao<\/a>, Country Head-Startup Ecosystem at Google India, gave <strong>an amazing overview of the state of the India startup ecosystem.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2143\" src=\"http:\/\/innovao.cluster030.hosting.ovh.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/India-startup-ecosystem-report-Nasscom-10000-startups-landscape-report-2014-2015-Bangalore-NPC-Product-conclave-innovation-is-everywhere-martin-pasquier-emerging-markets-2.jpg\" alt=\"India startup ecosystem report Nasscom 10000 startups landscape report 2014 2015 Bangalore NPC Product conclave innovation is everywhere martin pasquier emerging markets\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Their <a title=\"India startup report Nasscom Google 10000 startups\" href=\"http:\/\/10000startups.com\/tech-start-ups-in-india-a-bright-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>, dubbed <em>\u00ab\u00a0NASSCOM 10000 Startups Report\u00a0\u00bb<\/em> or <em>\u00ab\u00a0Startup Landscape 2014\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>, shows the growth of <strong>India as the 4th largest base for startups in the world,<\/strong> as well as local differences, data on the typology of founders, up to the success stories of the past five years and the different parts of the ecosystem itself with VCs, supporting organisations and more.<\/p>\n<p>The report is not only a bragging exercise, although figures really show the maturing of India\u2019s startup scene. The idea is to <em>\u201chave a benchmark to plan for the next few years, and <strong>set targets for 2020\u201d<\/strong><\/em><strong>.<\/strong> Most of the data found in the report cover the last 5 years.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2144\" src=\"http:\/\/innovao.cluster030.hosting.ovh.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/India-startup-ecosystem-report-Nasscom-10000-startups-landscape-report-2014-2015-Bangalore-NPC-Product-conclave-innovation-is-everywhere-martin-pasquier-emerging-markets8-2.jpg\" alt=\"India startup ecosystem report Nasscom 10000 startups landscape report 2014 2015 Bangalore NPC Product conclave innovation is everywhere martin pasquier emerging markets\" width=\"627\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>India startup ecosystem: 3,000+ startups now, 10,000 by 2020<\/h2>\n<p>The first set of data shows the sheer volume of India\u2019s tech ecosystem. <strong>With 3,100 startups, and 800 more every year, this is the 4th largest country after the US and China<\/strong>. The positioning of India as a startup country is also thought of in the light of other famous startup scenes such as the US, Israel, Singapore.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2145\" src=\"http:\/\/innovao.cluster030.hosting.ovh.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/India-startup-ecosystem-report-Nasscom-10000-startups-landscape-report-2014-2015-Bangalore-NPC-Product-conclave-innovation-is-everywhere-martin-pasquier-emerging-markets4-2.jpg\" alt=\"India startup ecosystem report Nasscom 10000 startups landscape report 2014 2015 Bangalore NPC Product conclave innovation is everywhere martin pasquier emerging markets4\" width=\"640\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The growth of the scene should go as far as <strong>2,000+ new startups created each year by 2020<\/strong>, and job creation from these entrepreneurs go from 65-75k as of today to 250-300k by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Of course India is a continent of its own, and some <strong>6 cities are trusting 90% of the technology scene.<\/strong> <strong>Bangalore<\/strong> (now Bengaluru) and the <strong>New Delhi<\/strong> area account for 28% and 24% of the startups in India, although emerging scenes pop up around the country, from <strong>Mumbai to Hyderabad, Pune or Chennai.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Who are the Indian startupers and entrepreneurs?<\/h2>\n<p>The profile of entrepreneurs in India doesn\u2019t give too much surprise, with <strong>32 y.o as an average age, only 6% women founders.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Interestingly enough though, the <strong>biggest chunk of startupers in the country have a background in MNCs and Indian tech companies<\/strong> (35% and 27% of the sample of the report). Only 13% of startup founders have no experience in the field before launching their venture.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2146\" src=\"http:\/\/innovao.cluster030.hosting.ovh.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/India-startup-ecosystem-report-Nasscom-10000-startups-landscape-report-2014-2015-Bangalore-NPC-Product-conclave-innovation-is-everywhere-martin-pasquier-emerging-markets3-2.jpg\" alt=\"India startup ecosystem report Nasscom 10000 startups landscape report 2014 2015 Bangalore NPC Product conclave innovation is everywhere martin pasquier emerging markets3\" width=\"640\" height=\"418\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The ecosystem itself is supported by <strong>a growing number of funds, angels, and support organisations<\/strong> such as incubators, accelerators, event platforms and academic programs.<\/p>\n<p>Where it\u2019s possible to see a growth in terms of ecosystem is by the growth of the numbers of all these components, as well as of the average size of deals.<\/p>\n<p>In India, <strong>the average investment in 2010 was $4.2m, it should reach more than $11m for 2014<\/strong>. Investments are also spread across a wide range of stages, from seed funding to growth stage.
